…the answer is, ‘no’. But that is only because Charm Thai Eatery in Sathorn exists. However, there are many reasons why the steakhouse, Cocotte Farm Roast and Winery, is a succulent, meaty contender for second place.
As a general rule, Izabella orders anything on the menu that contains truffles. Cocotte has an entire platter of the stuff – fresh crusty bread with a think smearing of truffle paste, hard truffle cheese, soft truffle cheese, a generous serving of chorizo and a sprinkling of figs and apricots. Just reading the menu whets the appetite.
The red meat offerings are impressive – pick your chunk of animal and they’ll deliver an Insta-worthy slab. But resist the temptation for gore and order the chicken. I know, I know, who orders the chicken in a fancy steakhouse (other than Isabella during her deranged, half-arsed [chicken-eating] vegetarian phase in her 20s)? But trust us. Cast your prejudice aside and get ready for some serious juice. How they get the meat of the chicken so moist and the skin so crispy is a tantalising murder mystery.
The wine list is surprising in that it’s cheapest bottle of red is a Malbec from Mendoza and white a Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough. Now that is a rare treat.
Book ahead and secure the couch in the corner. Meet up with friends, and order several bottles of wine, a few chickens, a selection of Mediterranean delights for degustation, and a zealous sprinkling of truffles. There is no better way to spend a Sunday arvo.
